The Riley Lab has a home!

Starting in November 2021, I am starting as an Assistant Professor at Mount Allison University (MtA). I am very much looking forward to building a dynamic lab focused on studying the integrative ecology of amphibians and reptiles. As well as teaching courses about Data Visualisation, Behavioural Ecology, and Herpetology. Part of my role at MtA, is to contribute to their Data Science certificate program. I am looking forward to teaching about this field and applying its principles in my lab!
MtA is located in Sackville, New Brunswick. This maritime province is home to 3 turtles, 4 snakes, 9 frogs, and 7 salamanders. It is a Canadian stronghold for many of these species - including the Northern Dusky Salamander (Desmognathus fucus).
The Riley Lab will aim to increase our knowledge about the ecology and behaviour of Atlantic coast herps and apply our research to their conservation. We also will continue our research with collaborators in Australia and South Africa - especially regarding lizard sociality.

Really nice to see this kind of update, it feels like a big milestone for the lab and everyone involved. Having a dedicated space honestly changes a lot, not just in terms of research but also how people collaborate and build that sense of community over time. From what I understand, labs like this usually grow stronger once they have a stable base, because it allows more consistent work, better planning, and even attracting new students or researchers who want to be part of something established.
